Science
Science is art – the art of ideas
Science like a theory or best possible representation of nature is the concept – the connection – the abstraction – the idea. We can realize it and create a scientific artwork using mathematics, equations or models just as we use colors to fill an empty canvas with our representation and view of reality.
Sciene is a creative exploration of possible explanations of reality.
Like some followers of the fine arts, naturalist painters or photographers – scientists try to find the idea which comes closest to representing reality. They define closest as when their idea or theory fits into the well accepted coherent system of ideas. Everybody agrees on the idea of the rules of mathematics, humans have defined that 2+2=4 is true for everyone and use this tool of mathematics to find other rules of nature. In natural sciences no finished perfect model of reality was found, as it has to fit observations and not contradict novel findings. While many people stick to theories closest to well accepted ones often the most absurd and new ideas are the ones, which are closer to explaining nature – like when Einsteins theory of General Relativity and idea of matter curving space replaced the before accepted idea of Newtons theory of Gravity. Besides the known qualities of a scientist as curiosity, logic, abstract thinking and resilience, creativity and imagination are the most important characteristics of a good scientist. Thus lets try to imagine what the cosmos looks like, to think outside the box and create art.
Here are some scientific illustrations and artworks related to the cosmos, universe and it’s objects. Specifically they cover topics of relativistic astrophysics, numerical relativity and cosmology. These works could be illustrations, backgrounds, banners or stickers for your next presentation or screensaver.
Personal scientific journey
In case you are intersted in Relativistic Astrophysics I recommend to check out the page of the RelAstro group at the Goethe University Frankfurt, which I did my Bachelor-, Master- and PhD-Thesis in. Here one can learn about interesting topics like black holes, neutron star mergers, gravitational waves and hydrodynamics. For other topics of astrophysics like supernovae or galaxies I refer you to the page of the astrophysics department.
If you are interested in my personal scientific journey you can read more in the AboutMe section or also check out my publications on InSpire. Note that I am still at the beginning of my scientific journey, curious to learn more about the universe and continue researching.
Science communication
Because it is important to share the ideas of science with people and inspire them to be curious and to study physics some friends and I have founded the Physik-für-Alle e.V. society for communicating physics in schools in Germany. Art and scientific illustrations are an important tool for understanding complex concepts and inspiring young students.
